What we do

Six services. One trustworthy crew.

Wake County soil is clay, the summers are humid, and tall fescue would rather live in Pennsylvania. Our services are built around that reality — no generic franchise scripts.

Weekly mowing

Same crew, same day each week. Sharp blades, edged borders, blown clean. The unglamorous heart of a great yard.

  • Mar–Nov weekly
  • Quarterly winter visits
  • Same-day text reminders
Details

Fertilization & weed control

Six-step program designed around a soil test of your specific yard. No more, no less than your turf actually needs.

  • Soil test before step 1
  • Pre-emergent timing windows
  • Grub & disease watch
Details

Aeration & overseeding

Fall core aeration plus tall-fescue or Bermuda overseed. The single highest-ROI thing you can do for a Wake County lawn.

  • Sept–Oct booking window
  • Triple-blend seed by zone
  • Starter fertilizer included
Details

Landscape design

Beds, borders, walks, and plant palettes designed for Piedmont clay — not a Pinterest board from Vermont.

  • Native + adapted plants
  • 3-year plant warranty
  • Hand-drawn plans
Details

Irrigation

Install, repair, and winterize. We diagnose with a flow gauge, not a guess — and resize zones so your water bill drops.

  • Smart controllers
  • Rotor + drip combos
  • Backflow testing
Details

Seasonal cleanups

Leaf haul-off, mulch refresh, pine straw, gutter clear. Spring open and fall close, on a single visit.

  • Triple-shred mulch
  • Long-needle pine straw
  • Curbside leaf bagging
Details
Real yards, real seasons

Drag the slider — that's one season of work.

The yard on the left came to us in March: thin fescue, crabgrass at the curb, moss in the shade. The yard on the right is the same one six visits later. Nothing magic — just turf science applied on the right week of the year.

  1. Visit 1
Soil test pulled, mowed and edged
  2. Visit 3

The calendar we work to

Your yard runs on a 12-month plan.

Most lawn problems are timing problems. We work to the same calendar NCSU recommends — pre-emergent before crabgrass germinates, aeration when soil temperatures hit the sweet spot, fertilizer when roots can actually use it.

Spring
Mar – May
  • Pre-emergent crabgrass control
  • First mow, blade height set to 3.5"
  • Mulch refresh on beds
  • Irrigation start-up and zone audit
Summer
Jun – Aug
  • Weekly mowing at 4" — stresses weeds, not turf
  • Spot weed treatment, no blanket spray
  • Grub scout (June) and fungal watch
  • Deep, infrequent watering schedule
Fall
Sep – Nov
  • Core aeration the first cool week
  • Triple-blend fescue overseed
  • Starter fertilizer + winterizer
  • Leaf haul-off through Thanksgiving
Winter
Dec – Feb
  • Mowers serviced, blades sharpened
  • Pruning of dormant shrubs
  • Irrigation winterization
  • Soil testing for next spring's plan
Where we work

Wake County — and a 20-mile ring.

We say no to work outside this circle so we can say yes to the same yards every week. If you're inside, we're your crew. If you're not, we'll happily point you to a shop we'd call ourselves.

Why Wake County calls us

Six reasons we keep the same yards for years.

Eighteen years of doing this in Wake County has taught us what actually matters. None of it is what the franchise lawn companies talk about.

Soil-tested first

Every yard starts with a soil pull — pH, organic matter, P/K — and a written treatment plan that comes back from the NCSU lab. We don't guess at fertilizer.

Same crew, same day

You'll see the same two-person crew every Tuesday (or Thursday, etc). Sharp blades, predictable arrival window, text when we're 20 minutes out.

Wes answers the phone

Owner, not a call center. If something's wrong with your yard, you talk to the person whose name is on the truck — usually within an hour.

Licensed & insured

NC Pesticide license #L-31142, $2M general liability, full workers' comp on every crew member. Certificate sent before the first visit on request.

No two-year contracts

Month-to-month, cancel anytime, no fine print. Our churn is below 3% — because the work is good, not because the paperwork is sticky.

3-year plant warranty

Anything we install — shrub, tree, perennial — is warranted for three full seasons. If it dies and you watered it, we replace it. No questions.

Word of mouth

The crew the neighbors talk about.

4.9 / 5 across 620+ Google reviews — the highest-rated lawn-care shop in Wake County, four years running.

"Switched from a big franchise after seven years. Birchwood's first visit was a soil pull and a written plan — no upsell, no pressure. By July my fescue was the best it's looked since we moved in. Same price, way better lawn."
Marisol H.
Wake ForestCustomer since 2023
"Wes himself came out the second time my irrigation kept tripping the GFCI. Turned out to be a chewed wire in a valve box — diagnosed in twenty minutes, fixed for $90. Two other shops had told us 'whole-system replacement.'"
Dan & Olivia P.
RolesvilleCustomer since 2021
"They aerated and overseeded our half-acre in October. Best decision I made all year — the spring greenup was 6 weeks earlier than the neighbors. They text reminders the day before service. Small thing, huge difference."

Common questions

Six questions we hear weekly.

If yours isn't here, just call or text. Real humans answer.

How is your pricing structured?

Weekly mowing starts at $42 per visit for up to a quarter-acre, scales with lot size — we measure with GIS, not eyeballs. Fertilization is a six-step program priced by sq-ft and we send the soil-test results before billing starts. Aeration + overseed is a one-time fall job, quoted by area. Everything is month-to-month, no long contracts.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No. We work month-to-month, cancel anytime, no early-termination fees. Our churn is under 3% because the work is good — not because the paperwork is sticky.

What's the difference between you and TruGreen / Spring-Green / etc?

Three things. First: we soil-test before any treatment, so you're not paying for fertilizer your yard doesn't need. Second: the same two-person crew works your yard every visit — no rotating subs. Third: we're owner-operated. The owner answers the phone, walks the property with you, and writes the plan. Franchises can't do those three things at our price.

When should I aerate and overseed?

For tall fescue (most Wake County yards): the first cool snap in late September through mid-October. We book the entire window the month before — call by August to lock a date. Bermuda gets aerated in May–June. Doing it on the wrong calendar is wasted money.

Are you organic?

Organic-leaning, not organic-only. We use the lowest-impact product that actually solves your problem — pre-emergents and corn-gluten where they work, milky spore for grubs, IPM for disease. When something genuinely requires a synthetic, we explain why, label-read, and apply it precisely. No blanket spraying.

Do you do irrigation start-up and winterization?

Yes — every spring (March/April) and every fall (October/November). Members pay a flat seasonal fee; non-members pay by zone count. We also handle leak repairs, controller swaps, and full system installs.
